Sir John Davie, 1st Baronet

Sir John Davie, 1st Baronet (1588–1654) was an English landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1621 to 1622.

Davie was the son of John Davie of Sandford and Kirton, Devon and his wife Margaret Southcote, daughter of George Southcote, of Calverley, Devon.[1] He matriculated at Exeter College, Oxford on 22 February 1605, aged 16.[2] In 1621, he was elected Member of Parliament for the newly enfranchised constituency of Tiverton. [3] He was High Sheriff of Devon from 1629 to 1630. He was created a baronet on 9 September 1641.[1]

Davie died at the age of about 66 and was buried at Sandford on 13 October 1654.[2]

Davie married firstly Juliana Strode, daughter of Sir William Strode, of Newnham, Devon and his wife Mary Southcote, daughter of Thomas Southcote, of Bovey Tracey. She died on 14 May 1627 and was buried at Sandford on 25 May. He married secondly Isabel Hele of Guaton, Devon. His son by his first wife John succeeded to the baronetcy and was also MP for Tiverton.[1]
