Sinagogais a village in the northeast of the island of Santo Antão. The village is situated in a cliffs and is at around 20 m above sea level. The promontory features rocks, a lagoon and smaller lagoons that are rarely dry. Sinagoga is linked with the LBRA1 which runs almost entirely by the cliffs near the Atlantic and connects with Paúl along with Janela and Ponta do Sol. It is located approximately 40 to 50 km northeast of Porto Novo, the island capital via road.
The name of the village (either in Portuguese or in the Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK, and in the São Vicente Crioulo or Santo Antão Crioulo), "synagogue" is probably a sign of a jewish settlement in the XVIII century.
The mountains dominate the area around the village, farmlands groves dominate around the, grasslands with barren rocks and bushes covers the rest of the area. The mountain cliffs lies within the Atlantic coastline and in the higher elevations. Forests and palm trees are rarely found in the area. Sinagoga features a beach that stretches up to halfway between the settlement and Ribeira Grande
The village is in the island's low class. Most of the houses are built with stone and concrete, some homes are built with either steel reinforced concrete or with stone and wood. All of its population are farmers and are based in agriculture where banana plantations, pineapple and other crops are common. Some farms are in the form of paddies and stone walls. However, a part of the needy materials comes from the island capital, the island capital and the diaspora. But for other needs, electricity, communications and appliances are partially available in the area as well as phone lines since the late-20th century. A part of the necessities also comes from the island capital.
