Silver Lake Township is a township in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,729 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 33.3 square miles (86.2 km²), of which, 32.7 square miles (84.7 km²) of it is land and 0.6 square miles (1.5 km²) of it (1.77%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,729 people, 626 households, and 502 families residing in the township. The population density was 52.9 people per square mile (20.4/km²). There were 1,037 housing units at an average density of 31.7/sq mi (12.2/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.15% White, 0.23% African American, 0.46% Native American, 0.06% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.23% from other races, and 0.81% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.81% of the population.

There were 626 households out of which 37.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.8% were married couples living together, 6.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.8% were non-families. 16.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.09.

In the township the population was spread out with 28.5% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 10.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 103.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104.6 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $48,063, and the median income for a family was $51,420. Males had a median income of $35,337 versus $24,342 for females. The per capita income for the township was $21,090. About 5.1% of families and 6.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.1% of those under age 18 and 10.2% of those age 65 or over.
