952 Liudolf rising: Otto I besieged Liudolf and Conrad in Mainz for 2 months
25 - 27 May 1096 Emicho and his followers reached Mainz during the German Crusade to persecute the Jewish population there but was refused entry by bishop Ruthard of Mainz. After a two day siege his followers broke into the city and massacred the population.[1]
