With approximately 5,000 employees, Sidel has installed 30,000 machines in 190 countries worldwide by 2011 (1).

History

From its origins in the 1950s Sidel has been developing packaging technologies for glass bottles or metal cans. After Sidel had invented the plastic bottle in the early 1960s, the company launched the production of plastic bottle equipment (5). By the early 1990s, the company’s machines were present in 26 countries, including Eastern Europe and the Far East. A new marketing approach helped its machines expand beyond the initial soft-drink market (6). Sidel was actively expanding through acquisitions into further packaging markets. Before joining Tetra Leval, Sidel acquired French manufacturers Cermex (7) in 1991 and Gebo Industries in 1997.

Activities

Sidel is known to be a pioneer in beverage packaging solutions, especially for PET bottles (8). PET materials account for the largest share of Sidel’s sales. The equipment offer encompasses blow moulding machines, barrier treatment, Combi equipment, fillers, conveyors, labellers, pasteurizers, palletiser/depalletiser, robotic equipment and end-of-line operations.

Sidel leverages beverage packaging solutions for brands as Coca-Cola (9), PepsiCo., Danone, Nestlé, Heineken and many others.
