A Shpitzel is a headgear worn by many married Hasidic Women. It consists of a tichel, snood or turban covering the women's head, often with a hairpiece across the front. The hairpiece is made of silk or synthetic fibers, so that it won't too closely resemble real hair. According to Jewish law halacha, a woman must wear a headcoving after marriage. The Shpitzel was popular among Hungarian Hasidic in the 19th Century, and it is still worn by some contemporary women who follow the customs of that community.
