Shortkut (also known as Short Kut: The Con Is On) is a 2009 Bollywood comedy film directed by Neeraj Vora and produced by Anil Kapoor under Anil Kapoor Films Company. The film stars Akshaye Khanna, Arshad Warsi and Amrita Rao in lead roles. It released on 10 July 2009 worldwide[1] to mostly negative reviews from critics.

The film was inspired by the 1999 caper-film, Bowfinger.

Plot

Shekhar (Akshaye Khanna), is a director. Raju (Arshad Warsi) is his best friend, and also a struggling actor. One day, Raju steals Shekhar's script, and releases the movie on his own name. Raju then meets to Guru (Chunky Pandey) who agrees to become Raju's secretary. Raju's film turns out to be an blockbuster. At this time, Shekhar's girlfriend Mansi (Amrita Rao) who is also an actress, leaves him. Therefore, Shekhar writes a new movie, and films it with Raju as the lead star, even though, Raju does not know he is being filmed. They record him, unknowingly, Raju starts to scream, mentally and physically. After he realises that he was being filmed, his life turns round. Shekhar releases the film, which goes on to be a blockbuster, Shekhar gets married to Mansi, Raju turns unpopular, and even Guru leaves his side. In the end, Raju is seen trying to steal someone elses script to sell, but gets caught.

The plot of the story is based on the Malayalam movie Udayananu Tharam, though the full climax to the film is inspired by Bowfinger.

The film's soundtrack is composed by Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani & Loy Mendonsa, with lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar. The song, "Patli Gali" was split into two versions in the film, even though only one version (including remix) was included in the soundtrack.

Short Kut was slammed by film critics in India as a poor comedy[2] and a major disappointment.[3][4]
