Shishir in Hindu calendar is the season or Ritu, related to winters and cold. It is the month of Magha and Phalguna or mid January to mid march in the calender year. It is also one among the many names of the Hindu God Lord Vishnu, and appears in the Vishnu sahasranama (Thousand names of Vishnu), and hence also a given name for boys.
Ayurveda, the ancient Hindhu science of medicine, dictates a special diet according to the seasonal variation. In this season the digestive activity becomes more powerful. Increased gets obstructed from spreading out due to cold atmosphere outside which can digest the tissues.[1] In the shishira season, which is mostly cold dewy season, sweet, sour and salt tasting food can be consumed. More intake of sweet, sour and salt helps reducing the vata. Wheat/gramflour products, milk products, sugarcane products and corn/edible oils can be taken as a part of food.
