Sidlaghatta is located at [1]. It has an average elevation of 878 metres (2880 feet).It is the Silk City of state Karnataka.
As of 2001[update] India census[2], Sidlaghatta had a population of 41,105. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Sidlaghatta has an average literacy rate of 62%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 67%, and female literacy is 56%. In Sidlaghatta, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age. It is near Bangalore International Airport. Also one of the worst infrastructure, no drinking water available.
The town is famous for silk and silk market (cacoon market). The market is Asia's second biggest cacoon market. The place is having many small scale industries producing high quality raw and twisted silk and exports across the county like Tamil Nadu, Andhra pradesh, Gujarath Etc.,.
The farmers are depends on rain for the agriculture. The water sources are also less.
There are many visiting places around the town like Kaiwara, Thalakayala betta near Diburahalli, Anantha padbanaba temple.
It contains almost 100 villages namely Malluru, Meluru, Muttur, Kambadahalli and others
V. Muniyappa (Congress) is the current MLA (13th Karnataka assembly).
There are many tourism places near the town: Nandhi hills is 35-40 kilometers from here. Kaivara around 30–45 minutes journey. Bangalore International Airport is 25 km from sidlaghatta.
