Shaw Centrepoint is a shopping complex located in Klang, Selangor. Its main tenant is The Store. Shaw Centrepoint is located adjacent to Klang City Square, Klang Mid Valley and in the proximity of the Klang River. Shaw Centrepoint has a gross built-up area of over 600,000 square feet (56,000 m2). [1]
This mall was opened on December 7, 1996.[1] In 2006, Shaw Centrepoint had a grand celebration in conjunction with its 10 anniversary. The first stores that occupied this mall include Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC), McDonald's and A&W. Later, the number of tenants expanded and Factory Outlet Store, Bata, and several computer shops were the newer tenants that occupied this mall. In late 2006, the A&W outlet was closed down. The latter was replaced with a Marrybrown outlet.
The area surrounding this shopping complex is where part of Klang Town is located. The road there links to Kapar and Jalan Meru where Klang Parade is located. The mall is crowded during peak hours, public holidays and during weekends, but is deserted during weekdays. Multi-storey parking lots are provided to cope with the number of people visiting this complex. The parking fare is RM 1.00 per hour. Because of that, many people park at the overcrowding ground floor parking lot. However, finding a place to park here is difficult. A Tabung Haji complex and the busy Jalan Taiping is located right in front of this shopping complex. Also, the opening of Klang City Square and the construction work at the Klang Mid Valley mall is increasing the traffic volume here. To reduce the possibility of a traffic jam in the area, Klang City Square opened a multi-storey carpark in its mall.
The GSC theatre in Shaw Centrepoint is located at the topmost floor of this building. It has 4 screens and 1006 seats. [2] Computer shops and a video arcade also occupy the top floor. There is a 20-stall food court on the fourth floor of this shopping complex.[1]
The Store is Shaw Centrepoint's department store and main tenant.[1] It occupies four floors, starting from the lower ground floor or the basement floor.
The complex was formerly accessible by a covered pedestrian bridge that was built across the highway. It connected this shopping complex with Mydin to avoid people from crossing the busy road below. However, in early 2008, the pedestrian bridge was demolished as construction work is going in that area. Lotus Five Star (LFS) will be opening soon in 2011 replacing Golden Screen Cinema(GSC).
