Sharafat is a 1970 Hindi film. Directed by Asit Sen it stars Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Ashok Kumar, Sonia Sahni and Jagdeep. The screenplay was written by the eminent Hindi satirist Krishan Chander ( author of such dark classics of Black Humor & Satire as Ek Gadhe Ki Maut ( The Death Of A Donkey ).

The Mujra ( Courtesan Dance ) number : "Zamaane mein sharifon ka, aji woh haal dekha, ke sharaafat chodd di maine..." {trans.: "When I saw the way the Righteous conduct themselves in this World, I gave up Righteousness..."} was a block-buster hit across the country and catapulted its box-office earnings. In Bollywood, the popularity of a song has much the same effect as the winning of an Oscar does to ticket sales in the US - which is the main reason why most commercial movies continue to have 5-7 songs, whether or not they contribute to the continuity of the screenplay.

The music is by Laxmikant Pyarelal and the lyrics by Anand Bakshi.
