Born on January 21, 1988, Shane grew up in St. Catharines, Ontario and started kickboxing aged sixteen. He had his first pro fight at 18, joining the joining the Iron Muay Thai Gym in Edmonton, Alberta, but would continue to fight on both the professional and amateur circuits up until 2007.[3][4] A very talented prospect Shane was dominant on the domestic Muay Thai scene picking up first the Ontario and then the national C.A.M.T.A.O. (Canadian Amateur Muay Thai Association of Ontario) titles in his early years. Too much for the local circuit Campbell headed south across the border into the United States were he won the I.U.K.A. Mid West American Muay Thai title in 2005 and then the W.K.A. North American title at the beginning of 2006.[5]
In 2006 Shane would have several more title fights in the United States, losing to Justin Greskiewicz by decision at the U.S.K.B.A. Action Sports World Championships[6] by gaining revenge by beating the same fighter in a rematch at the end of the year to claim the W.M.F. North American title.[7] These title victories led to Shane being called up to represent Canada at the 2007 W.M.F. Muay Thai world championships in Bangkok, Thailand. At the championships Campbell managed to reach the final of the junior middleweight section by found his opponent from Belarus, five time amateur world champion Vitaly Gurkov, too strong and had to make do with a silver medal.[8]
Just after the world championships, Shane faced the Dutch based Congolese kickboxer Chris Ngimbi who travelled across from the Netherlands to contest for the vacant W.K.A. world title. After five rounds Campbell was crowned the new W.K.A. world champion having won a hotly contested majority decision victory.[9][10] His reign did not last long, however, as Ngimbi returned to the states in September of that year, winning the rematch and Campbell's belt.[11] After his fights with Ngimbi, Shane left North America for a new challenge, spending the next few years in Europe and Asia fighting top tier fighters such as Warren Stevelmans, Dmitry Valent and Joerie Mes. He would also win another world title in 2009, this one with the W.M.A., beating outmatched opponent Farnam Mirzai by technical knockout.[12] In 2010 Shane was invited to take part in the Enfusion reality show involving eighteen of the some of the world's top Muaythai fighters with a first place prize of $40,000. Campbell won his first elimination fight at the training camp in Koh Samui, Thailand but was unable to qualify for the final 4 in Lisbon in his second match, losing to Pajonsuk.[13] Since 2008 Shane has increasingly become involved in Mixed Martial Arts and has recently signed up with Agression MMA having had some early success in the sport.[14]
