Shaadi.com is an Indian matrimonial website and the world’s largest matrimonial service. Shaadi.com claims to have the highest number of users and successful matches (822,073 as of 2009 and over 1.3 million as of 2011[1]) in the online matrimonial market and competes with BharatMatrimony.com and Jeevansathi.com4.[2]Shaadi.com was founded by Anupal Mittal and People Group in 1997.[3] The site, much like a dating website but for marriages, permits individuals to post their profiles and responses including horoscope, caste, language and religion.[3]According to founder Mittal, in 2000 some 30% of the site members were from the Indian diaspora.[3]
Shaadi.com was a recipient of the ‘Best Designed Matrimonial Website’ award given by the PC World Web Awards in 2007 and 2008 and in September 2007 Business Today cited the company as one of the Top 10 Marketers in India.[1]In 2009 it collaborated with Star Plus to produce India’s First Reality Matrimonial TV Show.[1]Shaadi.com is extremely well advertised and regularly appear in adverts on websites such as Yahoo!.
