Serang Municipality (Indonesian: Kota Serang) is the capital of Banten Province and the administrative center of Serang Regency in Indonesia. The city has a tropical rainforest climate, with no dry season month.[1] It faces the Java Sea, which is home to Thousand Islands. It has a population of 576,961 in 2010 census, of which 296,896 were male.[2] The proposed Sunda Strait Bridge road would start in Serang, pass through Merak of neighboring Cilegon city to Sumatra. It is the 3rd most populous city in the province, after Jakarta's suburbs. It could be considered amalgamated with Greater Jakarta, it is only approximately 15 km from Jabodetabek's border. Before Banten split off in 2000, it was part of West Java province (and not a capital).
