Senekal is a town situated on the banks of the Klipspruit River in the eastern part of the Free State province of South Africa. It was named after Commodant-General FP Senekal. Senekal lies on the N5 national road between Winburg on the west and Bethlehem to the east. It has two townships, Matwabeng and OR Tambo Section being the latest, large and growing. Senekal has about 5 primary schools and 4 Secondary Schools plus many primaries on the farms, Police Station, Correctional facility and hospital plus 3 clinics. Naledi Community station serves most parts of the Eastern Free State and small parts of Lesotho. It is on 103.9 MHZ. It is the second large town in Setsoto Municipality after Ficksburg.

Farming from and around Senekal also plays vital role to the economy of the province and country at large, including maize, sunflower, wheat and livestock of high milk and meat.

There are 2 most spoken official languages around Senekal, Afrikaans and Sesotho being dominant language.

Places of interests in Senekal include Arizona Game Reserve and Andries Pretorius Game Reserve though in Matjhabeng, falls under Setsoto Boundaries and one of the oldest churches in the Free State at the centre of the town. Though cool and charming, it is one of the most underdeveloped towns in the Free State.
