Semaria is a town and a nagar panchayat and Legislative Assembly Area in Rewa district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
As of 2001[update] India census[1], Semaria had a population of 12,325. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Semaria has an average literacy rate of 60%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 69%, and female literacy is 49%. In Semaria, 17% of the population is under six years of age.
Semaria has been made Legislative Assembly Area now, there would be a separate MLA for Semaria from next state elections. Currently it comes under Sirmaur while Block Development Office is still in Sirmaur. Its PIN code is 486445.
Semaria is surrounded by a range of pilgrimage centre like Dharkundi (monks shelter in lap of forest ranges), 15 km, Birshinghpur' (famous and ancient Gavinath Shivalinga), 21 km, Chitrakut, 90 km. Basaman Mama(Yaksha God), 11 km, is also very famous worship place for local people which is situated in bank of large Tons river. Tons(also called Tamas) river's water is stored in Bakia Dam and released for hydel power station (THP) through large canals. THP with three generating units generates more than 300MW of electric power for more than eight months in a year.
Semaria is the only big market for more than 100 villages in its province. A shopping complex with more than 100 shops has also been made by Laxman Bag trust, Semaria. It has one government aided YPSPG college for Arts, Science and Commerce faculties and two government higher secondary schools (each for boys and girls), however there are half dozen of Private Schools like Sarashwati Shishu Mandir, Gyan Jyoti English School, Gulab Shishu Mandir.
It's also giving a pool of talents to the country and many scholars are working in civil services as well as software and manufacturing industries. There are more than five cement factories near Semaria within range of 40 km.
Mr Abhay Mishra of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is current MLA of Semaria constituency.
Mrs Shyamkali Gupta w/o Mr Rajaram Gupta is newly elected Nagar Panchayat Adhyaksha (President, Municipal Corporation for 5 years term 2010-2014. she also hails from BJP and defeated her closest candidate by more than 600 votes.
