Geography and history

According to Pausanias[1] which he visited the area, Seirai was an Arcadian city in the country of Kleitor and at the border with Psophis, Arcadian. The city was located near the Soron Forest and nearby had the ruined settlement of Paos. Almost nothing was to be recorded after the Slavic invasion later up to the 19th century and the Greek War of Independence.

The village used to be known as Versitsi (Βερσίτσι, older forms: -o and -on) which is Slavic for area with many waters. It adopted its current name in the early-to-mid-20th century, its name comes from an ancient city.

After World War II and the Greek Civil War, its buildings were rebuilt and emigration occurred at a higher rate until 1961 through to 1991, it became one of the few villages in mountainous Achaia to regain is population. Dessino became connected with asphalt in the first decade of the 21st century. Electricity, radio and automobiles were introduced in the mid-20th century, television in the late-20th century and computer and internet at the turn of the millennium. In 1997, the ex-community (now a village and a municipal district) joined to become the newly formed municipality of Aroania.

Today, it is a village with a few inhabitants, it is populated during the summer months. The population depends on olive productions.
