History

Schuh was established by Founding Director Sandy Alexander in 1981, with a single shop in North Bridge Arcade, Edinburgh. The company became part of the Glasgow-based Goldbergs retail group, which ceased trading in 1991. Alexander led a management buyout, backed by capital from development agency Scottish Enterprise, to allow Schuh to continue trading. The chain remains independent, and as of May 2011, has 76 stores in the UK and Ireland. Schuh's head office is in Livingston.

Schuh's flagship store opened in 2004 at 200 Oxford Street, London.

Schuh was voted the UK's Footwear E-tailer of the Year and Multiple Retailer of the Year at the 2010 Drapers Footwear Awards.
