Schlag den Raab (German for Beat the Raab) is a game show airing on the German television channel ProSieben. A candidate who can beat Stefan Raab in a number of disciplines wins the jackpot.
Contents |
Each episode features one contestant battling against TV personality Stefan Raab in up to fifteen games for prize money of €500,000. The games have included sports contests such as biathlon and ice hockey, puzzles and various other challenges. Raab and his opponent compete in a maximum of 15 games. After the first game the winner gets one point, for the second game two points and so on. The show ends when Raab or his opponent gains more than 60 of possible 120 points. So there is no fixed time limit for the show. It easily runs about four hours or more. The jackpot rolls over if the contestant is not successful in one episode. Raab was first defeated in the third episode, where contestant Matthias Göbel won €1.5m. The highest amount won by a single contestant so far was €3 million, won by Nino on 23 May 2009. It is an occasional show; 30 episodes have been broadcast since the first episode on 23 September 2006, the latest being on 17 December 2011.
The show was nominated for the Adolf Grimme Awards category entertainment/special in 2007 and 2008.[1] Schlag den Raab won the Deutscher Fernsehpreis for Best Entertainment Show in 2007,[2] and won a Goldene Kamera in the category Entertainment in 2008.[3]
