Schönhausen is a municipality in the district of Stendal in Saxony-Anhalt in Germany, located 70 km north of the state capital of Magdeburg. It is the seat of the Verbandsgemeinde ("collective municipality") Elbe-Havel-Land.
Schönhausen was founded in the early 13th century by the Bishopric of Havelberg. After the Reformation, Schönhausen fell under the rule of the Electorate of Brandenburg. In 1562 Schönhausen was given over to the Bismarck family.
On 1 April 1815, Otto von Bismarck (who would go on to become the first Chancellor of Germany) was born in Schönhausen.
