Sarupathar is a town and a town area committee in Golaghat district in the Indian state of Assam.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Sarupathar had a population of 9827. Males constitute 55% of the population and females 45%. Sarupathar has an average literacy rate of 60%, Heigher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 84%, and female literacy is 77%. In Sarupathar, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age. A majority of Bengali live here but also other community like Assamese, Nepali,Muslim, Marwari, Bihari, Tamils, Tribes live here. Majority of Sarupathar belongs to Hinduism, other religions like Islamic, Buddhist, Christian is also available here.

Politics

Sarupathar is part of Kaliabor (Lok Sabha constituency) and 94th Legislative Assembly, which Current MLA is Mr. Aklius Tirkey .[2]
