Sanxingdui Museum is located in the northeast corner of the ruins of Sanxingdui, which is at the bank of Duck River in the west of Guanghan City, Sichuan Province, known as a famous historical and cultural city. It is 38 kilometers south from Chengdu and 26 kilometers north from Deyang. It is a large modern thematic museum. The museum was laid a foundation in August 1992 and formally opened to the public in October 1997.
Sanxingdui Museum covers an area of about 33 hectares of which the afforested area is over 80%. The environment in the museum is very beautiful and the layout is quite elegant. And it reflects the perfect combination of human and nature. There are two exhibition halls in the museum, including the First Exhibition Hall and the Second Exhibition Hall. The display area is nearly 12000 square meters. The First Exhibition Hall is a comprehensive museum which exhibits gold, copper, jade, stone, pottery, etc. while the Second Exhibition Hall is specially used to exhibit bronze.
Since the establishment and opening of the museum, it has received more than three million visitors at home and abroad and obtained good benefits both in economic and society. Even many state leaders have been there including Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao. The Sanxingdui cultural relics have been presented in Switzerland, Germany, England, Denmark, America, Japan, Australia, France and so on since 1993 and aroused great shock wherever they appear.
Sanxingdui Museum has been known as a cultural place of interest both at home and abroad. It is one of the most important five tourism scenic areas in Sichuan. It is one of the 50 places most worthy of visiting in China for the foreigners. It is also the national youth science and technology education base. It has earned high evaluation from people and the general Zhang Aiping once wrote down the inscription “沉睡数千年，一醒惊天下”.
