Sandsøya is an island in Bjarkøy municipality in Troms. The island lies east of Grytøya and southeast of Bjarkøya, and has an area of 10.8 square kilometres (4.2 sq mi). The highest point on the island is Veten at 212 metres above sea level. In 2001, Sandsøya had 107 inhabitants.
There is a ferry line between Altevik on Sandsøya and Fenes on Grytøya, and Austnes on Bjarkøya. Bjarkøy municipality has planned to join Sandsøya and Bjarkøya to Grytøya with a series of underwater road tunnels. This plan was not in the priority of Troms council's Norsk transport plan in April 2005.
There is also a connection by the Hurtigruten from Sandsøya to Harstad, Austnes and Senja. (Route times: [1])
With the municipal elections of 2005, Jorunn Berg from Sandsøya was elected mayor of Bjarkøy. He represents Sandsøy og Fenes/Skjellesvik Bygdeliste, also called Sandsøylista. [2]
