Sandhawalia
Sandhawalia is a very small Jatt tribe of Punjab; . In the 1881 Census it was listed as one of the smallest of the Jat tribes. Sandhawalia is a small royal clan consisting of landowners.
Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the Sikh ruler of Punjab, and his family asserted lineage from this tribe[1][2] that originated from their ancestor King Shah Samani of Central Asia.[3][4] The Sandhawalia tribe was not famous before Raja Randhir Singh and Ranjit Singh.[1][5][6] Sangat Singh (in his research), asserts a Sansi Caste lineage[7][8][9][10][11], whereas Preminder Singh Sandhawalia records the family's genealogical history in his book differently as being of Jat lineage.
Distribution
The Sandhawalia tribe population was 682, in Amritsar district, during the 1911 British Punjab Census[12] and estimated to have grown to 2,046 within Amritsar district in 1994.Sansi Jats are also found in surroundings villages of Gujranwala Dist.(Pakistan)in Khiali Shahpur,Noshera Sansi,Mian Sansi,Tehri Sansi,Kohlowala etc.who belong to muslim religion[13]
