Samuel Shankland (born 1 October 1991) is an American chess Grandmaster (2011), California state champion in 2008 and 2009, and USA Junior Champion in 2010.[1]
In the Chess World Cup 2011 he defeated Hungarian super-GM Peter Leko in the first round, but lost to Abhijeet Gupta in the second.[2] In the same year he tied for 2nd–7th with Deep Sengupta, Viacheslav Zakhartsov, Krisztian Szabo, Lev Gutman, David Berczes and Maxim Turov in the ZMDI Schachfestival in Dresden.[3]
