As a child, Sam's earliest forays into dance music involved organising dance competitions at primary school to find the under-11 with the best "Hammer dance". Before long, Sam was in charge of the music at school discos.[1]
During his teenage years he developed an interest in early rave music and then hip-hop, but the turning point came when his elder brother was given a pair of turntables for Christmas and promptly left them in his room when he went back to college. Sam commandeered the decks, taught himself to DJ and started playing at friends' parties at Hammersmith Town Hall, as well as venturing into pirate radio.
At 18, he received his break. At a Donna Karan Party with his father, he introduced himself as a DJ to party planner Jeanette Calliva who had begun putting on nights at Chinawhite. Two days later, when her booked DJ dropped out, Sam got the call and before long was a regular booking playing parties at the club
Sam has DJ'd at Boujis, Chinawhite, Club 29 (Istanbul), Indochine (Zurich), Movida, Maddox, The Box (NYC), Mansion (Miami), Louis (Miami), Embargo 59, Raffles, Automat, Griffin (NYC), The Eldridge (NYC) to name a few.
He has worked at well over 300 high profile events ranging from Elton John's birthday, Naomi Campbell's London Fashion Week party, Versace Parties, Vice Magazine, parties by Justin Timberlake and Guy Ritchie and the Monaco Grand Prix.[2]
He also DJ'd at the O2 Wireless festival with Jay-Z and Mark Ronson, opened for Hot Chip in Manchester and plays yearly at the Chinawhite Cartier Polo Mansion with Bob Sinclair
He was also responsible for signing Kasabian to Song BMG in 2002 and did 3 years of A&R at Concept Music.[3]
In 2009, Sam launched Nod Factor Records and to date is producing and remixing for various labels and artists such as Wiley, Kat De Luna, O'Neal McKnight, Lenka, Attaca Pesante, Superfly INC, The Loose Cannons, Square 1 and Daniel Merriweather
