Salahlay is a town in the northwestern Woqooyi Galbeed region of Somaliland, a self-declared republic that is internationally recognized as an autonomous region of Somalia.
During Somaliland's second administration (1993-2002), Salahlay was incorporated as a district of Gaaroodi in the Woqooyi Galbeed region.[1]
In the summer of 2007, the dominant local Ciidagale clan declared the city to be the capital of the Gaaroodi sub-region.[2]
