St. Gaucherius, a Christian saint, was born at Meulan-sur-Seine, France. He got a good Christian education. Once he turned 18, he went to Auriel for a life alone. Soon people came to him and he gave them the Rule of Saint Augustine. Many holy men were trained at this community he founded, including Saint Lambert, Faucherius, and Saint Stephen of Grammont. Attracting disciples even though he was only eighteen, Gaucherius founded St. John’s Monastery at Aureilfor and a convent for women. He died from a fall from a horse in 1140. He was canonized in 1194. His day of recognition is April 9.
