History

The school was founded in 1960 by local religious pastors. So far, all of the principals have been Religious Sisters of Mercy, with the current principal being installed in 1997. Because of all the religious influences around the school (there are a total of three Religious Sisters of Mercy working on campus, one being a teacher, and the other being the curriculum coordinator and the principal), the school places the building of students into moral Christians as a top priority, and therefore encourages good character and faith. To date, majority of the students at SACS are Catholic.

Campus

St. Anthony Catholic School, or more commonly known as SACS, is divided into several areas. Nearest the church, the elementary school, consisting of students and teachers from Kindergarten through the 4th Grade, is contained, as well as administrative offices, the main reception area, and the faculty room. In this area, which is normally considered the front part of the school, morning assemblies are held, which consist of announcements made by the principal, vice-principal, or coordinators of other relevant events, followed by prayers and a gospel reading, and finally a flag-raising ceremony, in which the school's Alma Maters, National Anthem or other patriotic songs, and the Guam Hymn, in both English and Chamorro, is sung. Farther back, and mostly on the top floor, the middle school, consisting of students and teachers from the 5th Grade through the 8th Grade, have their sessions. The gymnasium, playground, and theater area are contained in the bottom of the campus. The cafeteria is the division between the elementary and the middle schools, and is on the same floor as the elementary school. The Church is used for schoolwide Eucharistic celebrations, such as for the first day of school or for the celebration of Advent or many important religious celebration.[1]
