Sainikpuri

Sainikpuri lies to the northeast of the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. It is a co-operative housing society for retired defence personnel. Sainikpuri actually started off as a housing society for Army officers, but now has houses which belong to other defence services as well as a few civilians. Late Brig M. K Rao, late Brig S. N Docca (former commandant of EME School now (MCEME) and late Lt. Col. Tiwari Singh were the first few to have got plots in the society and had a vision that the colony would grow into an elite area. Indian College of Defence Management is situated close to Sainikpuri. The society is well planned and maintained.There is an abundance of lush greenery. Roads are well laid and numbered. Now considered a posh area, old buildings are slowly giving way to multi-storied apartments and beyond the reach of higher middle class to acquire any living space in this area.[1]

Recreation

There is a common auditorium / mess which offers a variety of services for the people living in Sainikpuri. These services include a gymnasium, a basketball court, a badminton court, a library, community hall as well as get together in the form of festival "melas" and the occasional game of tambola. Kapra Cheruvu is a lake closely located to Sainikpuri. There is an abundance of water and greenery. Residents have the privilege of enjoying the beauty of its picturesque avenues. The colony is very clean and the temperature is lower than most of the city because of its lush greenery. Most residents of the colony have large and beautiful gardens and a huge variety of trees, flowers and fruits growing in them.

Culture

Culturally Sainikpuri is a true reflection of India - Unity in Diversity. Sainikpuri has been home to people from almost every major culture of India. When Sainikpuri was established it was away from most of the urban Hyderabad and Secunderabad by at least 10 kilometers. Hence it developed a unique cultural and identity. Sri Venkateshwara Swami Temple can be visited in Eashwarpuri Colony. There is also a Laxmi Narayan temple close to the common auditorium and on the northern side there is also a Christian Shrine of Our Lady of Vailankanni. There is a mosque in Defence colony too.it has a small temple.

Neighborhoods

Sainikpuri initially had four blocks - A, B, C and D. In early 1980s additional area was added to Sainikpuri and it became the E block. Vayupuri is another residential area established and developed on the same lines along with Sainikpuri. Following the well-organised layout of Sainikpuri, other residential colonies have come up, to the north of Sainikpuri. Madhavpuri, Lakshmipuri, Osmania Teachers Colony, Saibaba Officers Colony, Bhasker Rao Nagar (especially 40/1), Eashwaripuri colony, H M T Bearings Officer's Colony,Suryanagar Colony,Kalyan Gardens,Shaili Gardens,Manik Sai Enclave,Tulsi Gardens,Sylvan Greens,Yapral residential area are a few. Defence colony is another well established organized residential area adjoining Sainikpuri and is as old as Sainikpuri. New shopping areas have developed like LEOs food court, 5th Avenue Bakery-probably the most popular hang out spot for most youngsters in the area, plus convenient stores such as Spencer's and MORE, have opened their outlets. Most of these neighborhoods are served by Sainikpuri post office. Until late 1980s a police outpost manned by usually two constables served the Sainikpuri, Vayupuri and Defence colony with the main police station being the one at Kushaiguda. Sainikpuri come under the purview of Kapra municipality and , Vayupuri and Defence colony under Malkajgiri Municipality.

Education

Bhavan's Sri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya School also known as Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Sainikpuri is quite close to Sainikpuri and many students from the colony study at the school. The school also has a state of the art cricket training academy. Another elite educational institution, Bhavans Vivekananda College, which is also a part of the Bharitiya Vidya Bhavan is located in close proximity to Sainikpuri, providing high quality graduate and postgraduate level education to students residing in this area and also other areas. The Bhavan's Ramakrishna Vidyalaya was initially Ramakrishna Vidyalaya which was started and managed by Sainikpuri Society but later on was handed over to Bhavans. Initially it was a residential school. Together the Ramakrishna Vidyalaya and Sarada Devi Hospital located on the main road leading to ECIL were started and managed by members of the Sainikpuri society. Some of the founder members are late Brig. M. K. Rao and late Lt. Col. Tiwari.

Foster's public school also known as fosters is located nearby the nirmal nagar bus stop.it is well known for its e-learning class roams.

Fitness and Health Clubs

There are many Fitness and Health Clubs around Sainikpuri. Kaizen's, KR Club, Star gym, Turnhalle gym and Michael's gym are some of the popular fitness centers. KR club is a Health club, Sports Center and also a Fitness center - it is located near Vayupuri Bus stop on Vayupuri main road.

Book Circulation Library

Filiko Books is one of the popular book lending library in this neighbourhood and boasts 5000+ books catering for all groups. More books are added every month. There are comics, fiction, non-fiction, self help, travel and so on which can be read at leisure and return. It is also possible to loan a number of popular magazines. The library is open on all days of a week with an exception on Tuesdays.
