Sahryń [ˈsaxrɨɲ] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Werbkowice, within Hrubieszów County, Lublin Voivodeship, in eastern Poland.[1] It lies approximately 8 kilometres (5 mi) south of Werbkowice, 16 km (10 mi) south of Hrubieszów, and 107 km (66 mi) south-east of the regional capital Lublin.
In the spring of 1944, Sahryń was one of 150 Ukrainian villages burned to the ground by Polish partisans during the conflict of ethnic cleansing with Ukrainians along the Curzon Line, which "continued throughout June 1944, resulting in considerable bloodshed on both sides and the destruction of dozens of Polish and Ukrainian villages". Sahryń was the site of the worst atrocity in the region, where some 700 villagers were killed and 260 farmhouses burned down.[2]
