Sahatwar is a town and a nagar panchayat in Ballia district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

As of 2001 India census[1], Sahatwar had a population of 18,972. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Sahatwar has an average literacy rate of 51%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 61%, and female literacy is 41%. In Sahatwar, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.Old name of Sahatwar was Mahatpal.There is a very good temple named ChainRam Baba.Here lived Hari Ram, a famous freedom fighter whose residential house was used as Police station during 1942 movement. Surahia village that is near to Sahatwar, has been famous in history for its various independence contributions and activities.maximum population in sahatwar is of kinwar rajputs. Sahatwar is very populer town in Ballia District. Here famous sweets is Gajar ka haluwa.Sahatwar is also known as the nagar panchayat of temples.Without mentioning CHAIN RAM BABA samadhi sthal,Sahatwar is incomplete.This is a gazated tourist place in BALLIA.Sahatwar is also a trade centre for about 100 of small villages such as Dumariya,Khanpur,Haldi,Parsha,Harpur.Mahatpaleswar temple is situated in the heart of the city.Sahatwar is surrounded by temples. East side Palat baba & Thakur ji(Baulli)West side Sri Chainram Baba,North Janki Brahma baba temple and south old Shiva temple with beautiful garden which is being rebuilds by one social worker santosh pratap singh.Apart from these temples Govind baba temple,Balak brahma baba temple,Saint Ganinath temple.500 years old Ram Janki temple. Hanuman temple,Khaki baba temple, Kali mandir and Kinwar rajput's temple Ma Kulkula Mandir.This nagar panchayat is well linked by Rail and roads.Former President Nagar Panchayat here on January 19 every year live born late Badrinath festival is celebrated with great pomp.
