The organ pipes and the ear show St. Cäcilia, the patron saint of the Catholic church of Saffig. The lava dome shows the territory of vulcanos, where Saffig is.
The first reference of this village was 1258 as "Saffge". Until 1481 Saffig was a fiefdom of Cologne. Than it was a fiefdom of the family von der Leyen. After the annexation of sinistral territory of the rhine during the French Revolutionary Wars (1794–1815), Saffig became a "Mairie" of France. Since 1992 Saffig is a part of the "Verbandsgemeinde" called Pellenz.
The Catholic church St. Cäcilia was built with the plans of Balthasar Neumann (1739–1742) and of his pupil Johannes Seiz.
