SIBM was established in 1978 . It is the flagship institute of Symbiosis International University and is recognized as one of the best Business Schools in India. In 1990, permanent affiliation was received from Pune University – the only B-school to have ever received it. SIBM now comes under the wide arm of the deemed Symbiosis International University (SIU).[2]
Symbiosis has expanded its reach into India's IT hub - Electronic City in Bangalore. Its reach started in Pune which is spread over a 300-acre (1.2 km2) area overlooking the city of Pune, the SIBM campus is situated on a hill in the Symbiosis Knowledge Village, Lavale. SIBM is today proactive in Corporate Education, Consulting and Training in various sectors such as IT, ITES, Banking and Financial Services, Public Sector Administration, Petrochemicals, Pharmaceutical, FMCG, Retail, Insurance, Consulting etc.
SIBM has tie-ups with corporates from well known organizations such as Hindustan Unilever Ltd., Amdocs, Kingfisher Training and Aviation Services Ltd., Larsen and Toubro Ltd., Cummins India Ltd., Piramal Healthcare Ltd., and BASF among others, for co- administering certain portions of the academic curricula, and sometimes beyond the course curriculum.
In one of its efforts to reach out to corporates, the Information Technology (IT) team, consisting of students and faculty members at SIBM undertakes web consultancy projects having successfully worked with Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS), Pune-based Chordia group, Maharashtra CID, Bank Of Maharashtra, National Institute of Personnel Management and CII among others.
The selection of the students for the full time residential MBA Programme is on the basis of a national aptitude test (SNAP). The shortlisted students then go through a rigorous process which includes a Group Interaction and a Personal Interaction. The Group Interaction process comprises of a Group Discussion and a Case Study. This is followed by a Personal Interaction process which is formed by a Personal Interview and an Extempore.
