The South African Theological Seminary (SATS) is a distance education institution based in Rivonia, South Africa. Reuben van Rensburg is the principal of the seminary.
SATS was established in 1996 and is one of the founding members of the National Association of Distance Education Organisations in South Africa (NADEOSA).[1] Students need a recognised school leaving certificate to enrol at the seminary. Its courses are nationally and internationally recognised as the seminary is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and its qualifications are registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training (South Africa); SATS has the authority to issue qualifications up to the doctorate level, and provides courses on three levels: pre-tertiary, undergraduate (B.Th.) and post-graduate (Honours B.Th., M.Th., Ph.D. in Theology).
The seminary comes under the spiritual oversight of the elders of The Village Church[2] which was established by Rosebank Union Church in 1986. The church is broadly Evangelical with an emphasis on belief in the absolute authority of the Bible, the lordship of Jesus Christ and the ministry of the Holy Spirit.[3]
