Søllerød is a village and a northern suburb of Copenhagen. It was the seat of the former Søllerød Municipality, from 2007 part of the Rudersdal Municipality.
The municipality ceased to exist on 1 January 2007 when it was merged with Birkerød Municipality and became Rudersdal Municipality. The main features of the village are its medieval church, with a very beautiful cemetery, the famous inn "Søllerød Kro", the old countryhouse "Mothsgaarden" (currently a historical museum) and a number of 18th and 19th century countryhouses. In the 18th and 19th centuries Danish and foreign artists and poets often visited the area. Hans Christian Andersen stayed there in the summer of 1864 and 1865, and in 1868 the Norwegian composer Edward Grieg composed his masterpiece, 'Piano Concerto in A minor, Opus 16', while staying at Mothsgaarden.
The Søllerød Town Hall, completed in 1942, was designed in the Functionalist style by Arne Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen.[1]
