Rütschelen is a municipality in the Oberaargau administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.
Rütschelen has an area of 4 km2 (1.5 sq mi). Of this area, 58.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 35.6% is forested. The rest of the land, (5.5%) is settled.[3]
Rütschelen has a population (as of 31 December 2010) of 578.[1] As of 2007[update], 3.2% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 3.9%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (99.1%), with French being second most common ( 0.2%) and English being third ( 0.2%).
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 46.8% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS (19.6%), the FDP (16.5%) and the Green Party (7.2%).
The age distribution of the population (as of 2000[update]) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 26.4% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 55.8% and the seniors (over 64 years old) make up 17.7%. In Rütschelen about 79.5% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).
Rütschelen has an unemployment rate of 1.32%.
