Rumendingen is a municipality in the administrative district of Emmental in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.
Rumendingen has an area, as of 2009[update], of 2.43 km2 (0.94 sq mi). Of this area, 1.46 km2 (0.56 sq mi) or 60.1% is used for agricultural purposes, while 0.77 km2 (0.30 sq mi) or 31.7% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.21 km2 (0.081 sq mi) or 8.6% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.04 km2 (9.9 acres) or 1.6% is either rivers or lakes.[3]
Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 1.2% and transportation infrastructure made up 2.5%. Power and water infrastructure as well as other special developed areas made up 4.1% of the area 31.7% of the total land area is heavily forested. Of the agricultural land, 44.0% is used for growing crops and 15.6% is pastures. All the water in the municipality is in rivers and streams.[3]
Rumendingen has a population (as of 31 December 2010) of 79.[1] As of 2007[update], 2.4% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has decreased at a rate of -17%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (98.5%), with French being second most common ( 0.7%) and Spanish being third ( 0.7%).
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 73.1% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS (9.4%), the Green Party (7.7%) and local small left-wing parties got 7.6%.
The age distribution of the population (as of 2000[update]) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 22.8% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 68.4% and the seniors (over 64 years old) make up 8.8%. In Rumendingen about 60.1% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).
Rumendingen has an unemployment rate of 1.22%. As of 2005[update], there were 36 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 11 businesses involved in this sector. 27 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 2 businesses in this sector. 43 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 1 businesses in this sector.[4]
