Roulé
Roulé (translating to "rolled") is a French record label that was founded in 1995 by Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk fame. There exists a sister label called Scratché, which has had only one release to date by the Buffalo Bunch (Paul de Homem-Christo and Romain Séo) who now release on the Crydamoure and We Rock Music labels.
Label history
The use of the name Roulé stems from the Daft Punk track "Rollin' & Scratchin'". Musicians on the Roulé label included Romanthony, Stardust, Roy Davis, Jr., DJ Falcon, Alan Braxe, Together, and Thomas Bangalter's own material.
Roulé's fifth release Stardust's "Music Sounds Better with You" single reached number one in the dance charts in most European countries. Stardust members were Benjamin Diamond on vocals, Alan Braxe for music and Thomas Bangalter with production. It contains a sample of the Chaka Khan song "Fate".
Although the label has existed since 1995 and released several singles, it has yet to release any solo albums from any artist. The only "album-like" releases to date are the Irreversible Soundtrack and Trax on Da Rocks, which is only a two-part vinyl release. The possible reason for this would be that Bangalter uses Roule as a periodical outlet for music, instead of an actual label. In an interview, he once stated:
“ |
Roulé’s never really been a “label.” It’s been more of an outlet where there’s a record every year or so. I’ve never made plans for it, and I never will. It’s just something that is there. I know for Guy-Manuel, Crydamoure is more of a label.[1] |
