Romvong (Khmer: រាំវង់, also romanized as rom vong) or Lamvong (Lao: ລຳວົງ - lám wón) is a popular folk-dance in Cambodia and Laos, and more marginally in Thailand. It is a slow circle dance continuously moving in a circle, and incorporates graceful hand movements and simple footwork. Both men and women participate in the same circle. This dance is still popular at traditional festivities in both Khmers and Laotians culture.
Ramvong dance has been performed in Cambodia for as long as anyone can remember. Both Khmers and other ethnic groups like Phnong, Krung, Tompuon and Prou people have performed this circular dance style since ancient times.
The basic pattern involves two couples folding their palms, with your fingers at right angles to your wrists, and bring your hands up from behind you in front of your face, straightening and bending your fingers in time to the music as you go. Move your hands in opposition directions - one to the left and one to the right.
The legs must move in time of the rhythm, and in the opposite direction to your partner. Continue to dance around in a circle keeping in time with the beat of the drum.
