Rognan is the centre of the municipality of Saltdal in Norway, with 2,532 inhabitants (2009). The town is located innermost in the Salten fjord. Local industry includes the optical cable factory of Nexans Norway and Hepro. The Nordlandsbanen railway line passes through the municipality.
Hank Von Helvete singer of Norwegian Punk Rock band Turbonegro grew up in Rognan. The internationally acclaimed composer Fred Jonny Berg is based in Rognan. Ragnhild Monsen, a leading Scandinavian textile artist whose work spans 40+ years, was born and raised in Rognan and has used her connections to the town and her art in many ways, for example, creating exhibitions at the previously condemned Nestby Brygge.
