Rockbridge County High School was built in 1992 to include all students in Rockbridge County and Lexington, Virginia in grades 9-12. This school consolidated the former Rockbridge High School, Lexington High School, and Natural Bridge High School. It is operated by Rockbridge County Public Schools. The school's mascot is the Wildcat.
In recent years the school has been recognized for its "Sierra Leone Project" which has been sponsored by the RCHS Interact Club. Students voluntarily raised money and school supplies for a technical school in Kenema which had been destroyed in a civil war. Through RCHS's efforts, the school has been rebuilt and improved.
Other school organizations include National Honor Society, Interact Club, Spanish, French, and Latin Club, the award winning school newspaper "The Prowler" and the nationally renowned "Trivium" yearbook.
The Prowler staff holds a yearly talent show, a popular event and outlet for students to display their various talents. Staples of the talent show include the comical emcee acts in between each act, and the Prowler 5 dance routine. The RCHS Talent Show raises the money needed to print the school's newspaper.
The RCHS student government sponsors a highly successful bloodmobile, and students contribute an average of 100 pints of blood during this drive. In addition, the student government supports the local food bank and sponsors numerous school spirit activities throughout the school year.
Students at Washington and Lee University began the first high school Model United Nations program in the area in February 2007. Various local banks and businesses, along with Washington and Lee University, Virginia Military Institute, and the Rockbridge County School system sponsor the conference. Schools across the Shenandoah Valley attend.
Rockbridge County High School currently supports 13 Varsity teams, including Cheerleading (football and competition),Wrestling Football, Volleyball, Girl's and Boy's Basketball, Girl's and Boy's Lacrosse, Golf, Swimming, Baseball, Softball, Girl's and Boy's Soccer, Girl's and Boy's Tennis and 8 Junior Varsity teams including Cheerleading, Football, Volleyball, Baseball, Girl's and Boy's Soccer, Softball, Girl's and Boy's Basketball as well as an Academic Team and Athletic Trainers.
