Rijksakademie

The Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten (English: Royal Academy of Visual Arts) is a two-year residency for visual artists, based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Funded by the Dutch government, residents are granted a stipend and are allotted a personal studio in the former military barracks building in which the Rijksakademie is housed. The institute also offers manned workplaces and a library specializing in visual arts and art theory. A small group of recognized artists service as professors and advise the students. Each year, approximately thirty applicants are accepted as residents. The number of applicants can be as high as 1,900 annually, as was the case in 2010. Residents may come from any country. Usually, around half of the resident artists are Dutch.
