Redmile

Redmile is a village and civil parish in the Melton district of Leicestershire, England, about 15 miles (24 km) north of Melton Mowbray and 10 miles (16 km) west of Grantham, in the Vale of Belvoir.

In 1936 the adjoining civil parishes of Barkestone and Plungar were merged into Redmile, and the parish is sometimes known as Barkestone, Plungar and Redmile. In total the parish has a population of about 800 [1].

The parish is close to the county boundary with Nottinghamshire (to the west), where the nearest places are Granby, Sutton-cum-Granby and Elton on the Hill. Other nearby places are Bottesford, Belvoir, and Stathern.

The village's name has been the subject of many stories, the most popular of these are that there was once a huge battle near Belvoir Castle and the blood ran for a mile. The second of these is related to the clay around the village which is red and is such for a mile.

Redmile has been in a location in the majority of the second series episodes of the popular British comedy drama Auf Wiedersehen Pet, about a group of seven British migrant construction workers.
