Formed in early 2005 ,[2] the group consists of vocalist Jean Baptiste, keyboard player Dorian, guitarist Vortimer, drummer Harry Mason and bassist Constantine. The band is considered to be affiliated with the progressive gothic metal subgenre .[3]

Formerly known as Kill-9 (kill minus nine), a UNIX system command, the band entered the studio in order to record their debut album in June 2005 .[7] Encouraged by their producer, they assumed theatrical stage names and changed the band’s name to RandomWalk ("random walk" being a mathematical formalization of a trajectory that consists of taking successive random steps but also symbolizing the consecutive steps of destiny) .[8]
Vocalist Jean Baptiste borrows his stage name from Patrick Süskind’s “Jean-Baptiste Grenouille”, keyboard player Dorian assumes the identity of Oscar Wilde’s “Dorian Gray”, guitarist “Vortimer” is named after a tragic royal figure of the British tradition and drummer “Harry Mason” chooses the name of the homonymous Silent Hill character .[6]
The band signed their first record contract with independent label “Burning Star Records” in 2007 [8] and filmed a promotional music video (for the song “Faces Down”) in November, directed by Bob Katsionis .[9] The record label seized their operations later in the same year.
RandomWalk’s debut studio album titled “Redemption” was released in February 2008 after the band signed a record contract with independent label “I for an I Records & Media” .[10]
The band re-entered the studio in February 2009 in order to record their second studio album, titled “Absolution”,[11] which was mastered by Waldemar Sorychta and released in October 2010.[12] Shortly after, in January 2011, Waldemar Sorychta and RandomWalk shared the stage during one of the band's shows.
Harry Mason is currently endorsed by Turkish Cymbals.
