History

Rake was founded by Arent A. Rake, a native of Norway.

Geography

Rake is located at (43.483451, -93.919498)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.0 square mile (2.6 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 227 people, 110 households, and 53 families residing in the city. The population density was 225.3 people per square mile (86.8/km²). There were 119 housing units at an average density of 118.1 per square mile (45.5/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 92.51% White, 1.76% Native American, 5.73% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.93% of the population.

There were 110 households out of which 19.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.0% were married couples living together, 3.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 51.8% were non-families. 44.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 29.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.06 and the average family size was 2.89.

In the city the population was spread out with 21.1% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 23.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 100.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 105.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $24,375, and the median income for a family was $33,750. Males had a median income of $25,357 versus $20,625 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,816. About 7.7% of families and 13.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.5% of those under the age of eighteen and 26.2% of those sixty five or over.
