Rajinovac

Rajinovac[1] is a monastery located on south end of Begaljica. While its date of founding is not known, it was first mentioned in the year 1528[2] in the Ottoman census of the Belgrade municipalities, listed as "Monastery of saint Rajko" - Manastir Svetog Rajka. The first major renovation of the monastery and church was completed by Knez of Begaljica Stevan Andrejević- Knez Palalija in the year 1793.[3] The church is dedicated to the Virgin Birth.[4]

Legend

According to legend, there was young man from Bosnia serving a wealthy family from Begaljica Bugarcic. After couple of years,he was going back home,to Bosnia and was paid. On his way, the sons of his employer robbed and killed him, at a spring on the outskirts of the village. After two years, a herdsman found him dead at the spring, and reported it to Bugarcic. He soon figured out that his sons were responsible for the murder, because both of them had gone insane. Bugarcic, for the amount of Raja's salary, built a small wooden Church penitent, to atone for the sins of their children - "Raji for the repose of the soul, and himself for the salvation of his soul". The church was built from Raja's money (money=novac),and therefore called Rajin novac, or Rajinovac.
