For most of its history, the Indian Railways has met little success in the Ranji Trophy and has largely been forgotten by Ranji Trophy enthusiasts. However, in recent years, they have been a steadily emerging team, having won the trophy twice and become runners-up once since the year 2000. They have been extremely successful in the Irani Trophy, backing up their two Ranji wins with two Irani victories, their most recent being against the likes of Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Venugopal Rao, Sreesanth, R. P. Singh and Parthiv Patel, all of whom have played international cricket for India.[1]
