Pyeongchang-eup (평창읍) is a small city in South Korea and the county seat of the county of Pyeongchang. The town has a surface area of 116.31 km2 (44.91 sq mi) and a population of 9,940. It is located on the left bank of the river Pyeongchanggang.
The local activities include the production of tobacco, silk and honey.
On 6 July 2011, Pyeongchang was announced as the host city for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
Given the Olympic Charter, which stipulates that the Games are awarded to a city, and the administrative organization of Korea, it is unclear whether the host city for the 2018 Games is Pyeongchang-eup or the county of Pyeongchang.
