The founder and sole owner of Pure Barre is Carrie Rezabek. She received her bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University then went onto law school at Wayne State University[3]. She opened her first studio in Birmingham, Michigan. She is also the ambassador for Luluemon for the San Diego area[4].
Pure Barre's direct competitors include the fast growing Pop Physique, Dailey Method, Bar Method, and Core Fusion, all companies offering classes inspired by the Lotte Berk method. Pure Barre has four steps to working out: warm up, thigh work, seat work and ab work. It has been said to be the hybrid of ballet, Pilates and standard aerobics-class weight training[5]. It starts with light weights, then moves onto the ballet bar for a series of movements that are designed to tone the abdominal and derrière muscles[6].
Pure Barre is an excellent mix of aerobics, Pilates and weight training. Aerobics is a system of physical conditioning designed to enhance circulatory and respiratory efficiency that involves vigorous sustained exercise, such as jogging, swimming, or cycling[7]. Pilates improves your mental and physical well-being, increases flexibility, and strengthens muscles[8]. Weight training is for improving or maintaining overall fitness, strength, or endurance[9]. And ballet is a classical dance form characterized by grace and precision of movement and by elaborate formal gestures, steps, and poses[10]. The fusion of all these exercises creates a challenging and enjoyable workout.
